💡Hybrid grow lights

If you’ve seen Grow Wands they look the same but the newer PHOTO+ grow lights are a step up in the quality of the light output for plants (PHOTO+ is short for photosynthesis).

Both brands light output is a white. full-spectrum light. Grow Wands produce a slightly warmer. more golden-white and PHOTO+ a cooler. cleaner white. The red LEDs in the PHOTO+ don’t change the colour to our eyes (the light doesn’t turn pink). 

The main difference is the boost from the red grow light LEDs. I prefer the PHOTO+ for my more sensitive. younger or variegated plants in particular. but PHOTO+ can be used to give all houseplants a light boost. PHOTO+ can be positioned closer to plants even when on the highest settings. A better choice for seedlings. propagating cuttings. baby plants. sensitive and variegated plants. 

💡42 LEDs per tube 

PHOTO+ have 42 LEDs per tube compared to Grow Wands 18 LEDs per wand. however Grow Wands appear brighter (to our eyes). The main difference is the addition of the red grow light LEDs in the PHOTO+ (Grow Wands only have full spectrum). 

💡Why add red light?

Red light is among the best colours to stimulate plant growth. Not as bright as full-spectrum to our eyes. but better for our plants. The best two colours for plants are blue and red light. however too much blue light can stunt growth and produce smaller leaves. Winter is naturally stronger in blue light than red. Higher levels of blue light reduce auxin production (a natural plant growth hormone responsible for cell growth. concentrated in stems. roots and younger leaves). Blue light also encourages darker green colouration. another reason red light is preferred for variegated plants. 

💡Are pink grow lights better?

Although red and blue light are considered the best for plant growth (the combo that produces a pinky-purple glow); when the light is only a mix of blue and red. the light output appears dark to our eyes and makes green foliage appear purple-black instead of green. 

Full-spectrum however. appears brighter to our eyes and covers the full light spectrum for plants. including blue and red. Depending on the colour of the output. full-spectrum lights nearer cool-white don’t change the colour of how plants appear to us. making it easier to keep an eye on plant health and an eye out for pests.

Keep in mind our plants don’t care about how bright the lights appear to US. it’s the PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) that matters to them. PAR is light in the 400 to 700nm range that plants require. the range PHOTO+ provides.  

💡Extended NZ Warranty

All electrical products from Love That Leaf have a 6 month warranty covering manufacturing faults or defects (in other words. anything you did not cause and could not have prevented). but PHOTO+ come with an extended 1 year warranty against faults and defects.
